Medicare rebatable exomes

A Medicare rebate is available for paediatric patients who meet certain criteria and may be arranged by either a clinical geneticist or a paediatrician with supervision by a clinical geneticist. 

We are happy to facilitate arranging exome testing for your patients in the following ways:

• Complete an information sheet (see below) with regards to the clinical features and demographic details for the child, with a family history 
• We will review and let you know if the patient is eligible for a Medicare funded exome test. 
• You then undertake informed consent for the child and both parents (if for trio exome) , complete Randwick Genomics clinical information sheet,  email these documents to the lab and arrange sample collection for the child and parents. 
• We ask that you include a copy of results to us to allow follow up and would be pleased to consult with the family after the results if required- normal referral process to our rooms
• There is no cost for this service. 

• Complete the information sheet and provide  a referral for the child  and parents. We will arrange a Telehealth consultation to undertake consent, complete request and request samples.
• This will not be a full genetics consultation.
• We will arrange for you to be sent a copy of the results to disclose to your patient. If follow up genetic consultation is required, please refer as per the usual process.
• The family will be charged $375 and received the Telehealth rebate for an initial specialist's consultation for all individuals on the referral . 

•  Refer the family (child and both parents) to us via the usual process 
• We will undertake a clinical genetics consultation, arrange consent for appropriate testing, liaise with the testing laboratory, interpret the result and arrange follow up consultation. 
• The family will be charged the usual consultation fee with relevant Medicate rebate
