Our Practice
North Shore Genetics is a specialist clinical genetics practice co-located with The Paediatric Cinic at North Shore Private Hospital in St Leonards. We see both adults and children for the purpose of diagnosing genetic conditions, assessing an individual's risk of inheriting a genetic condition and to organise and interpret complex genetic tests, where applicable. We see couples that are planning a pregnancy to advise on which tests would be most appropriate before and during the pregnancy.
Dr Mary-Louise Freckmann

Mary-Louise graduated from the University of Newcastle and trained in Paediatrics at Sydney Children’s Hospital before completing her Clinical Genetics specialist training at the Sydney Children's Hospital and The Children’s Hospital, Westmead in 1995. Mary-Louise also practices at Royal North Shore Hospital and at The Canberra Hospital. She has served as President of the Australasian Association of Clinical Geneticists.
A large part of her practice involves consideration of an underlying diagnosis and further investigation of children and adults presenting with developmental or complex health issues, which may assist in the management and understanding of their condition. Mary-Louise is available to provide expert advice and to discuss appropriate genetic testing and screening in couples planning a pregnancy; or when abnormalities are diagnosed in a pregnancy.
Mary-Louise has experience and skill in arranging access to, and interpreting results of investigations utilising current genomic technologies.
Dr Sondhya (Sondy) Ghedia

Sondy grew up in country NSW and completed her medical studies at the University of Sydney. She trained in paediatrics at the Sydney Children’s Hospital and clinical genetics at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and the Sydney Children’s Hospital.
Since 2010, Sondy has worked as a clinical geneticist in the public and private sectors. She sees both adult and paediatric patients. She is the Clinical Lead of the Dept of Clinical Genetics at Royal North Shore Hospital. She has experience in the management of NF1, general genetics, and preconception carrier screening and has expertise in arranging and interpreting complex genetic testing.
She is currently a lecturer in clinical genomics at Sydney University.
